## About Us The Solar Foundation’s mission is to fund and accelerate off-grid solar solutions for underserved communities in emerging markets with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. We believe decentralized clean energy is a public good, and that by partnering with community led NGOs and utilizing new technologies such as blockchain, we can accelerate progress toward SDG7: Universal access to affordable, reliable, clean and modern energy. Through our work in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Nigeria,…

### 🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling In the shadows of Mt Elgon National Park, many farmers believed they must choose between trees and crops. Fearing trees as space-hungry competitors, they cut them down to grow food. This led to biodiversity loss, soil erosion, and deadly floods and landslides, claiming over 1,000 lives. ### 📜 Our Solution To address this, Bees and Trees, a youth-led social enterprise has motivated smallholder farmers in Uganda to restore degraded land through incentives.…

#### 🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling [ Mangroves are the coastal guardians with more than ten times the capacity to absorb our carbon emissions than the tropical rainforest, and are the most powerful trees for climate mitigation. Sadly, these were cut in the past, with Tanzania having lost more than 100,000 hectares. Restoration is highly needed at the moment to enable uptake of 100 million tons of carbon by 2040, and support communities on sites.] #### 📜 Our Solution…

[](https://postimg.cc/sQd4tpMR) Rural culture in Brazil nowadays is a result of the destruction of indigenous secular food forests, which were replaced by the colonizers' monocultures of exotic species - such as cattle - and more recently affected by 100 years of rural exodus. We believe that regeneration is a socio-ecological subject, related to the culture of being for generations in a place. Inheriting the natural…

We are **Ayowecca Uganda**, transforming lives at the critical intersection of human development and environmental restoration. Born as a grassroots initiative in 2018, we've evolved into an NGO that uplifts communities while healing the earth. We have planted over 5000 fruit trees in schools, health centers and distributed communities for food security and increase…

### 🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling Kimi Island, Uganda, is home to around 5,500 residents in the communities of Kimi Kachanga and Kimi Banga. These residents face urgent challenges: inadequate infrastructure, poor healthcare access, environmental degradation, and the lasting impact of a devastating fire in 2017. Without action, the community—especially youth and vulnerable families—will continue to face hardships and limited opportunities. ### 📜 Our Solution The Kimi Restoration Campaign…

**🌍 The Challenge We're Tackling** Since the early 1900s, the Philippines has experienced a devastating decline in mangrove cover, reduced from an estimated 500,000 hectares to around 250,000 hectares today. The widespread conversion of mangrove forests into fishponds has disrupted natural coastal habitats, resulting in reduced biodiversity, diminished ecosystem services, and increased vulnerability to climate change. Local communities face challenges of uncertain land ownership, limited…

### 🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling In Northern Uganda, vast freshwater wetlands that once protected communities from flooding and supported rich biodiversity are rapidly degrading due to deforestation, poor land use, and climate change. Local communities—especially women and youth—face the brunt of this destruction. With soil erosion worsening, water tables declining, and livelihoods disappearing, the urgency to act is now. If these ecosystems collapse, generations could lose access to clean…

🌍 **The Challenge We’re Tackling** In Uganda, over 70% of healthcare facilities lack climate adaptation measures, leaving them vulnerable to climate-related disasters. Without action, the health and wellbeing of communities are increasingly at risk. The impacts of climate change—ranging from food insecurity to poor air quality—are already affecting public health. 📜 **Our Solution** Climatica Foundation launched a fruit tree-growing initiative across 30 healthcare facilities in Uganda. By…

### 🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling Forests are inseparable from the lives of local communities in Central Kalimantan. For generations, these communities—especially the Dayak people—have depended on forests for their livelihoods, culture, and well-being. But today, forests are being exploited unfairly and excessively, driven by economic interests that ignore environmental limits. This imbalance threatens biodiversity, accelerates climate change, and endangers the way of life of forest…

### 🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling In Kenya’s South Rift Valley, the degradation of grasslands is threatening pastoral livelihoods, wildlife habitats, and cultural heritage. As grass cover disappears, so does the food for livestock and wildlife, leading to increased conflict and vulnerability—especially for women who depend on the land for household sustenance. If we do nothing, we risk losing both biodiversity and traditional ways of life. ### 📜 Our Solution We are restoring degraded…

🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling Smallholder coffee farmers in Kenya, who produce some of the world’s finest Arabica coffee, face systemic challenges in accessing fair markets and financial resources. Despite contributing to a $200 billion global coffee industry, these farmers capture less than 10% of the value due to undocumented assets, climate risks, and exploitation by intermediaries. Productivity remains alarmingly low at 0.2 kg/tree compared to a potential of 1.5–2.5 kg/tree. Without…
